The Chef: Sara
The Menu: A cashew-based alfredo sauce, which Sara served over pasta and tossed with broccoli. If you're looking for a more in-depth discussion of this dish—and the recipe for it—check out veganyumyum.com! Sara also made a delicious salad, featuring grated carrots, halved tomatoes, romaine, spinach, and Swiss chard.
The Goods: First, congratulations to Sara on her first turn in the VN kitchen! She made a fine chef, and we're looking forward to more of her meals. Britt Hawley, who is currently the chef at Golden Mean Vegan Cafe in Santa Monica, CA. She was the head chef at Real Food Daily for 6 years, and also catered my wedding! Her cooking is absolutely amazing.
Jeremy Fox of Ubuntu in Napa CA
Innovative, surprising, always delicious!! Best meal I've ever had..
i consider Isa Chandra Moskowitz a chef, so i pick her! she's helped me to be a better cook with her excellent recipes.
I'm my favorite chef because I know exactly what I like! ;) If I don't count, I choose JennShaggy of the blog Veganize It, Don't Criticize It.
Isa, of course!
Danielle Konya, founder of Vegan Treats! Her desserts are absolutely to live for!
My favorite chef is my sister who creatively turned all my fav dishes vegan when the whole family turned vegan. I really miss her cooking after moving out!
I live in East Texas, where vegan chefs are few and far between. But that's okay, because it encouraged me to become my own favorite chef, which enabled me to go vegan and stick to it for the first time.
Isa, definitely. I love her cookbooks. :)
I've got to join the others and say that I'm my own favorite chef simply because I know exactly how I want my stuff prepared!
Aaron Adams of Portobello Vegan Trattoria gets my vote. Vegan gnocchi to die for!
I know you asked for one, but I can't choose! So I'm submitting 2. First, Bryant Terry (author of Vegan Soul Kitchen) for his yummy African-American comfort food. And Colleen Patrick Goudreau (author of The Joy of Vegan Baking and The Vegan Table) ~ Her recipes are easy, accessible and delicious! I credit her for introducing me to my vegan lifestyle. Plus, both of these great cooks are local Bay Area peeps :)
At home, I'm usually the chef, and my gentleman friend is the best helper there is. But once in a while he decides that he wants me to sit and relax while he takes care of everything, and that definitely makes him my favorite chef!
Whoever makes the sweet and sour tofu and vegan pad thai at my Whole Foods is my favorite chef. I could eat both dishes every day and be perfectly content!
Well, I am sorry to say that I don't of a vegan chef, except for me. Though, maybe any chef at a vegan restraunt, like Real Food Daily, Veggie Era and Native Foods.
My mum is my favourite chef!
She always gets as excited about food as I do, and I've never met a chili that I like better than hers. She makes a damn good home-made loaf of vegan bread! And she even made my husband a big box of vegan doughnut holes (blueberry, cinnamon-brown sugar, and plain glazed) for his first birthday as a vegan. Needless to say, he was overjoyed and her doughnut holes were *amazing*!
Since I unfortunately do not live anywhere near a vegan restaurant, I'll have to say that I am my favourite chef!
Whomever cooks at The Chicago Diner is my favorite vegan chef.
My sister!
My husband, who's usually more than willing to cook for me. But I like in rural MO, so it's not like I have a ton of options!
um... most of the time, my favorite chef is myself! I like cooking, I like knowing just what's in my food, and how it was prepared. Plus, so often, when I eat out I end up thinking that I could have done a better job on my own. One place that's never true, though, is Millenium Restaurant. So, maybe whoever cooks there is really my favorite chef!
Nigella Lawson - veganized!
Even though he isn't a vegan chef I get many ideas reading Ferran Adria books so I have to go with him. His food is so unusual and complex. I am so fascinated by his use of deconstruction, foam/air and lecithin pearls.
My brother. He surprised me last year with a 6-course vegan meal for my birthday!
Yuki Chen, of Gobo in NYC is my favorite chef. (I do love watching Anthony Bourdain on TV, despite the fact that I'd probably never find a vegan item on a menu by him)
Super hard question! If I have to pick just one, than it is Eric Tucker of Millennium... the flavor combinations and textures he creates are superb!
I'll go with Isa Chandra Moskowitz or Eric Tucker of Millennium. Both have changed the way I think about vegan food.
My favourite chef works at a new local vegan restaurant in Ottawa, Canada - Zen Kitchen. Her name is Caroline Ishii and she whips up the most amazing dishes!
I love Ann Gentry! She has a show on "Veria" and I love watching her stuff...accessible and delish!
All hail Isa Chandra Moskowitz!
Whoever cooks for me! It's often me, but I love getting my inspiration from Isa Moskowitz. Her books are awesome and watching her shows on YouTube are awesome since they feature cool music too.
But if I could ever find a babysitter, I hope to try Zen Kitchen too!
I really like Isa also! Her cookbooks are awesome.
it's a tie between the authors of my two favorite cookbooks--isa and dreena. and both of them are helping to turn me into my new favorite chef!
Isa and Dreena! Love them both!
Susan Voisin of Fat Free Vegan!
ani phyo!
My mom!
Debbie
Sarah Kramer, is she considered a chef?
My favorite new vegan chef is Amanda Cohen who is also the owner of Dirt Candy in NYC. She's worked at a lot of vegetarian/vegan restaurants & it shows, the food is great. It's the perfect place to go with friends who aren't vegetarians b/c they won't even realize there's no meat. I went there on a date without a non vegetarian & he loved it!
My runners up are the chefs at Cafe Blossom & Blossom Restaurant, although they took off a few of my favorite items. And I love the food at Real Food Daily in Santa Monica, CA.
For the best east coast yummies I vote for Rich Landau & Kate Jacoby of Horizons cafe in Philadelphia...delicious!
