Half Sandwich, Half Shawarma

The Chefs: Elizabeth and Herbivore

The Menu: Get ready. It's half of the grilled chicken sandwich and half of the shawarma. The sandwich is on perfectly fluffy bread, and has slices of tomato and pickle, and the shawarma is wrapped in lavash with tahini dressing, pickles, and potatoes. Plus, I had a side salad with a yummy Dijon mustard dressing.

The Goods: You know how sometimes there are really difficult decisions in life, such as trying to choose the perfect lunch option between these two stellar savory staples? At times like this, I'm even more thankful than usual to work with some of the finest minds in veganism—including Assistant Editor Anna Peraino, who went splitsies with me. When two friends both get to enjoy two delicious sandwiches, everybody wins. Do you know who'll win Veggie Awards this year? I do—it's the nominees who get the most votes, that's who! So don't leave your favorites hanging, vote already!

Herbivore Lunch to the Rescue

The Chefs: Jennifer and Herbivore

The Menu: The chicken shawarma—a wrap with soy chicken, potatoes, pickles, hummus, avocado, harissa, and magic—plus kale salad with soy chicken and avocado.

The Goods: Sometimes, you need lunch—stat. With tonight's Twitter Chat and Vegan Drinks to contend with after work, I ran to Herbivore to procure lunch for myself and our Managing Editor Elizabeth Castoria. You know what happens when coworkers share lunch? It means that two people both get to eat two awesome things, in this case, a shawarma and a kale salad. Here's hoping it's enough to power us through the rest of the day!

Shawarma and Salad

The Chef: Lyndsay and Herbivore

The Menu: A delicious shawarma wrap with soy chicken, seasoned onions, tomatoes, hummus, pickles, tahini, avocado, and a small salad on the side

The Goods: So yes, this shawarma is half-eaten, and the only excuse I can make is that I forgot the camera when leaving for lunch. Editorial Assistant Gabrielle Pope and I went to Herbivore this afternoon with gift certificates in hand—let's just say that we were on the winning team at the World Vegetarian Festival Weekend for selling the most subscriptions. And let me tell you, working so hard definitely paid off with this delicious wrap, which came highly recommended from other VN staffers.
