Half Sandwich, Half Shawarma

The Chefs: Elizabeth and Herbivore

The Menu: Get ready. It's half of the grilled chicken sandwich and half of the shawarma. The sandwich is on perfectly fluffy bread, and has slices of tomato and pickle, and the shawarma is wrapped in lavash with tahini dressing, pickles, and potatoes. Plus, I had a side salad with a yummy Dijon mustard dressing.

The Goods: You know how sometimes there are really difficult decisions in life, such as trying to choose the perfect lunch option between these two stellar savory staples? At times like this, I'm even more thankful than usual to work with some of the finest minds in veganism—including Assistant Editor Anna Peraino, who went splitsies with me. When two friends both get to enjoy two delicious sandwiches, everybody wins. Do you know who'll win Veggie Awards this year? I do—it's the nominees who get the most votes, that's who! So don't leave your favorites hanging, vote already!

21-Day Cleanse Starting Salad

The Chefs: Elizabeth and Herbivore

The Menu: A fantastically enormous salad of mixed greens, romaine, shredded carrots and beets, cherry tomatoes, roasted beets, grilled tofu, and avocado, all topped with my absolute favorite dressing, the Dijon vinaigrette.

The Goods: After a recent long weekend in NYC (read all about it later this week on Press Pass), I have been in desperate need of greens. To make sure that I'm really getting all the good, green stuff possible, I'm starting Kris Carr's 21-day cleanse today! I'm really excited to juice, meditate, and generally get myself into tip-top shape. To celebrate the start of this little adventure, I grabbed the biggest salad on the block, which happens to be my favorite. Tonight, to continue the healthy theme, a group from the VNHQ will attend a screening of Forks Over Knives, which I absolutely can't wait to see! Have you tried the cleanse or seen the movie? Tell me your thoughts on either in the comments!

Satisfying Salad

The Chefs: Elizabeth and Herbivore

The Menu: One of my all-time favorite salads: Herbivore's mixed green salad with grated beets, bean sprouts, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, and grilled vegan chicken, all topped with a Dijon dressing.

The Goods: Yes, I could pretty much totally eat this salad every day. You know what makes an already-fantastic meal even better? When you get to share it with someone wonderful. Today I had the pleasure of dining with my mom and my sweetie, and couldn't have asked for a better lunch. Here's hoping everyone had equally great meals!
