The World's Saddest Burritos

The Chef: El Burrito Express

The Menu: Perfect Friday fare: black-bean burritos with whole-wheat tortillas, chips, and extra fresh guacamole.

The Goods: Why, you might ask, are these the world's saddest burritos, if they were so delicious? Well, they marked the last official lunch of Kailey and Charlotte as editorial assistants, and in order to deal with our sadness (and the surprise high-80's temperature today!), we had to drown our sorrows in burritos and ice cream. Thankfully, our freezer was packed with pints of Purely Decadent Coconut Milk Ice CreamVanilla Bean and Chocolate were big hits—and we made it through lunch without totally losing it. On a much happier note, we have a new winner to announce! Congratulations to Vegan Epicurean, whose response was chosen by our trusty random number generator, despite her anti-karaoke stance. VE, send us an email with your name and address, and the calendar is all yours! Now, for the final Go Vegan! 2010 Calendar, answer us this question in the comments: who is the person you most want to go vegan?

Hm. Hard question. Probably Anthony Bourdain because of his visibility and aversion to vegan cuisine. It would be interesting, methinks.

There is no one person I most want to go vegan. I'd love for everyone to go vegan, but I wouldn't force it on anyone. If ever someone manifests an interest, though, I'll give all the help and support I can to make it easier for them, and to show people around them that it's not as hard as they make it to be. Hopefully, that would inspire some of them to consider the idea of giving it a try.

That is an easy one. I would want all the people I care about to go vegan so that they would be healthier and live longer.

Wouldn't it be cool if Barack Obama went vegan? Or Michelle?

Of course we all want everyone to become vegan...
It would be interesting if someone like Sponge Bob or Miley Cyrus went vegan. Then you'd get all kinds of kids and fun-loving adults exposed to it too!

My MOM! I never push veganism on anyone (except for my boyfriend hehe..j/k)...but I can be pretty persuasive for people to at least try vegan food that I make or go to a vegan restaurant. Everyone, EXCEPT for my mom, admits that vegan food is awesome! But my mom, the stubborn German woman, just makes the worst faces and aweful comments on ANYTHING vegan I have her try. It's like okay, you eat dead flesh and that's delicious? The most delicious, moist, fluffy, vegan chocolate cake, she will say is "ummm...that's aaaalright just because it's chocolate." It is my life's mission now to get her to at least like something vegan, then take the plunge and go all the way!

my boyfriend so that we could go to out to more vegan restaurants and my dad so that i wouldn't have to continue to justify my lifestyle to him after 19 years.

My parents because they have so many health problems that I know would be made better through a vegan lifestyle. I have seen the changes it has made in my own health over the years, and I wish I could share this gift of life with the two people who gave it to me.

I'd like my roommate to go Vegan for purely selfish reasons. No more meat in the apartment!

I'd love it if my sister would at least consider it. She is an amazing athlete and has been struggling with recovery and injury issues that I bet would be resolved if she cleaned up her diet. She lives on lean cuisine and fat-free hot dogs. Gross.

Oooh, Barack Obama is a great answer! But I think the person I'd most want to go vegan is my mom. She suffers from diabetes and high cholesterol and had a stroke last year. It would be wonderful to see her regain her health, so that she could enjoy her golden years to the fullest.

I would have to say....my boyfriend. It would save many battles down the road with what we are feeding our one year old son. He would be one hundred percent supportive in my decision to feed our son a vegetarian diet.....and maybe appreciate the food I cook for him a bit more!

humm... my girlfriend? but she's veg and eats everything i make so it really isn't an issue (almost vegan by default!)

after that, my mom.

My husband, the unapologetic carnivore. He agrees that it's healthier and better for the environment to not eat meat (and our kids don't), but he is too (self-professed) lazy to go vegetarian, let alone vegan...that and he worries about losing weight (he's a really thin guy already) - oh and he says that he loves the taste of meat too much to give it up. I think that it would have a big impact on his entire family if he went vegan, and help his mom eat less meat, which I'm sure would help her many health problems. I'm trying to get him to do the PCRM 21-day vegan kick-start challenge for one week right now.

Ted Nugent. I figure that would prove once and for all that anyone can. And we'd never have to see him wield that crossbow again. :D

I definitely would want my husband to go vegan - even vegetarian would be nice! I wish my granddaughters would also give up meat - at first they thought it was funny that "Grammy" stopped eating burgers, hot dogs, steak, etc. But they are used to it now! My kids. . .well, I suppose there's hope for them someday!

Although this is over, I had to add my comment; Anthony Bourdain is the one person I'd DIE to see go vegan, for even a day! He so vehemently opposes a meat-free diet and pokes fun at vegheads whenever he can, so can you imagine him living off of tofu and fruits and veggies and enjoying it?! Hey, I'd even through in some raw foods just for extra oomph. :)

I would love it for my hubby to go vegan! Unfortunately I have to continue to buy and prepare meat along with preparing vegan meals for my daughter and I. It would be nice to only buy/prepare veggie items, not to mention my husband to have a more healthy diet.
