Brunch Week: Tofu Omelets with Mushrooms and Spinach

The Chef: Charlotte

The Menu: The most brunch-like meal we've had all week! Charlotte combined the savory, spinach- and mushroom-stuffed omelets with sweet chunks of fresh pineapple for a lovely two-taste meal.

The Goods: First, congratulations to our brand-new chef, Charlotte! Ok, by this point in the week you probably know the drill. A huge congratulations to Allychristine, who scored herself a signed copy of Vegan Brunch! Allychristine, go ahead and send us an email with your full name and mailing address. Today is Thursday, and that means two things. One: a bunch of us are going to karaoke, and of course are heading to Ike's first! Two: we only have one more copy of Vegan Brunch left! We'll all be sorry to see Brunch Week come to an end. Le sigh. To (possibly) win one of them, answer this in the comments: What's your favorite restaurant to go to for brunch?

Morning Glory Cafe in Eugene, OR. It's a vegetarian place but their vegan dishes are divine. Think: omeletes made with a hashbrown shell instead of egg (!!!), biscuits and gravy, baked filled apples...the best meal I ever had was a special, a tofu scramble with red peppers, leeks, and chantarelle mushrooms! MMM!

My fav restaurant for brunch is WaterCourse Foods. Everything on their menu is available vegan. They offer up mouth-watering tofu scrambles, a blue plate special, pancakes, french toast ... but not "normal" french toast, whoa no. *Banana Bread french toast.* Yes. Let's just take a moment to savor that thought.

...

Mewkay.

Also for the having, an Amsterdam Hash that's just as good as the name implies, and ... the nummers to end all nummers ... biscuits and gravy. Uh! So good, makes you want to smack yer mama. Metaphorically speaking, of-course.

And I'm not even mentioning the giant cinnamon rolls. Nope. This is me. Not mentioning them.

Did I say they're in Denver, CO yet? Thank goodness I live in San Diego, CA or I'd be working off a never-ending tab washing dishes or something. But every time I'm in Denver, I can be seen fogging up the glass in the wee hours of the morning, waiting for them to open and creeping out the wait staff.

Well, Madeleine Bistro, of course.
Unless your car breaks down on the Bay Bridge, then you catch the 108 (if it stops for you) to the 14L then get on Bart at Embarcadero, take it through the Transbay Tube, get off at North Berkeley Bart and walk to Fellini's. Order a Florentine if you're feeling European from all the public transport. Otherwise, I'd order the pepper and pesto scramble. Got it?!

Caravan of Dreams, NY, you have your choice of raw or cooked delicious organic vegan food, killer tofu scramble and spinach "omelette", oodles of fresh juiced fruits and veggies, french press coffee and amazing lattes, spelt berry pancakes anyone? OMG the live almond hummus--best hummus in the entire world--and you definitely can't go wrong with the cuban brunch with the grilled banana! Wheee!!

Haha. What Puppy said. Though the co-op makes some yummy muffins, there really is no place I've been except my very own kitchen that dishes out a yummy vegan brunch.

We need to get planning again...

New Health Cafe in Rochester, NY. It's one of the few places to get a tofu scramble in the city. So, really, my favorite place would be my living room with delicious vegan food, my puppy, and a DVR full of guilty pleasure reality shows.

In St. Joseph, MO, my hometown, there is a place called "The Garden of Eatin'" that serves garden fresh vegetarian food. You can actually SEE the garden out the back windows.

definitely It's Only Natural in Middletown, CT. Their pancake specials on Sundays are amazing!

My favorite place to have a vegan brunch is only once a year and it only happens at Millenium's Mothers Day Brunch. The food is exquisite and keeps me full all day long not to mention its all about me just for that one day. After having 5 beautiful children a day to sit down, unwind and relax is priceless.

In Grand Rapids, MI there is a lovely little Veg and Vegan friendly restaurant called Marie Catrib. Brunch for me: fresh-baked bread ends dipped in vegan french toast batter, topped with sauteed peaches, and fresh ginger-maple sauce. Along side this a small dish of fresh fruit. Yum!!

The only place around here to get a decent vegan brunch is Gateway Market (tofu scramble minus cheese). But I'm usu. too lazy to get out in time for brunch so I like making it at home in the afternoon

The Other Side in Boston, MA, on... the other side of Newbury St. and Mass Ave. They have all sorts of dishes, from chicken salad to vegan chicken salad and vegan tofu scramble. They can make many of the dishes vegan, as well. Plus the atmosphere is youthful and kitschy and cool! And not far from shopping, of course. :)

Thanks for this awesome week-long giveaway!

Mary's of Course Cafe in Winston-Salem, NC. It's vegan friendly but not entirely veg, although she uses free range lanimal products. Her Tofu Scramble, barbecue tempeh, various soups and salads, veggie sausage, hashbrowns, toast with apple butter, homemade granola, and her vast selections of teas and coffees are delicious! Even better is this family run cafe has a lot of personality. It's full of art and ecclectic knick knacks - from a tofu zombie to Hello Kitty, to unmatching dishes.

I have nowhere by me for vegan brunch....so, I normally just make my own tofu scrambles at home. Or I get oatmeal & fruit at any breakfasty type place.

Zenith in Pittsburgh definitely. Not only do they have an all you can eat vegan brunch buffet with a dessert table, an entree with thee best french toast and freshly made iced tea, but they also have a thrift store and its family owned. No wonder it's usually an hour wait for a table! It's definitely worth it.

oh kelsi, you just reminded me of the Indigo Cafe in NH. That place is awesome because you order your main brunch off the menu and then while you wait you can go to the salad and baked goods buffet! They have all these yummy salads and dips and muffins and it's hard not to get full before your main dish comes. But the combo plate is awesome because you get french toast, tofu scramble, sausage patty, and the best potatoes ever. and then there's a dessert buffet too, with their awesome pies and cakes! I can't wait to go back to the Indigo Cafe.

Soul Veg in Washington DC... or Keren, for authentic fuls medama. Both of these places are super no-frills, so it's DEF not about customer service or atmosphere, but the food is killer.

I don't have a favorite restaurant to go to for brunch but I suppose that if I had to choose one it would be Mr. Natural in Austin.

Amara, yes! It's exactly like that cafe! mmmm.
