The Chefs: Abby and Frankie
The Menu: Yes, those are Frankie's Falsies ribs. Yes, they are just as delicious as we remembered them. Abby roasted these babies up and doused them in Frankie's barbecue sauce, which was absolutely perfect. She also made her signature biscuits—Abby can whip these up in about 10 minutes flat, and they are so, so good right out of the oven—with the surprise addition today of Daiya and an absolutely incredible cashew gravy. Oh heck yes. Also, there was a salad. But really, Daiya biscuits!!
The Goods: In case you were wondering what milestone we're celebrating today, it's the 500th post on Café VegNews! Yes, our first-ever blog is still running strong, and we're so happy to be able to share our weekday meals with everyone on these here interwebs. In honor of the event, Colleen made a fantastic apple crisp and Frankie made a delicious peanut-butter-chocolate pie from Alicia Silverstone's new book, The Kind Diet. Since we couldn't share the pie with everyone, we made a crazy, one-day giveaway for you! Just leave a comment with your favorite Café VegNews post by midnight tonight, and we'll randomly draw one winner, who will receive an enormous tub of Sjaak's Peanut Butter cups. They are, in a word, incredible, as you can see below.

June 19, 2009. Breakfast for lunch with fresh fruit to top it off!
your recent post called mashed potatoes -- I loved the use of tortillas as calzones. tried it at home -- huge hit!
This is one of my fav posts. I love mexican food and these tortillas look amazing! http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/homemade-vegan-tortillas.html
After wasting way too much time in the office drooling over old blog entries, I have to say my favorite is yesterday's vegan cheese pizza post.
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/pizza.html
How could I possibly choose one post as my favorite? They're all amazing! Thanks for the give-away; I'd love to win. :)
Congratulations on your 500th!
Congrats on reaching that milestone!
Very very hard to choose a favorite, though the meal featured in the One Pot Wonderful post (http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/05/one-pot-wonderful.html) is exactly what I need right now. Yum!
mac 'n cheese!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/marvelous-mac-n-cheese.html
Just like you guys, I can't get enough of mac 'n cheese. :-)
I live in a city which has no Soul Vegetarian restaurant. So far, their Mac n Cheese is my favorite, but now that I saw my favorite post, http://www.vegnews.com/web/articles/page.do?pageId=40&catId=10, about Mac n Cheese, and that recipe looks great...I think I'll have to pull out my Soul Veg cookbook and make both...Ooooh, what a yummy challenge. I also make my own mac n cheese...I'll have to make all 3 in one day and have a taste test fest, hehe
The corn fritters post! Yum!!!
Fresh Tortilla Friday was a great idea! Home made tortillas are so good and I liked the idea of making a desert with the tortillas.
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/fresh-tortilla-friday.html
This one: http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/best-pizza-ever.html
Pizza on naan bread with a ton of veggies? AND chocolate chip cookies? Sounds pretty amazing to me!
I'm sorry but I can't choose just one. I loved and hated them all because they made want to reach into the computer and eat up. But technology has not come that far yet so I was left with nothing but yummy thoughts.
We have to pick one?! Not possible... ;) I do love when you profile new cookbooks, though!
Today is the best because of your chocolate give away! Haven't had chocolate since becoming a vegan in January.Fingers crossed I hope I win!
Hard to pick a favorite, but homemade tortillas would have to be one of them: http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/homemade-vegan-tortillas.html
The real favorite is the one when you invite me to join you. (I'll even bring dessert!)
I couldn't possibly pick just one of your posts- the food always looks so good! However, it's particularly great when you feature new products and cookbooks. -Eve
I remember this sweet post
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2008/10/extra-super-awesome-surprise.html
I liked it because you always talk about Frankie and we got to see her and her amazing, drool-inducing creations. Also, it's a good post to match this totally freak-crazy prize you are offering!
congratulations on 500 posts! amazing! I've been blogging for over 3 years and I'm not quite at 400 yet. Just shows what 5-posts-per-week can do for your numbers. Hoorah!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/corn-fritters-and-caesar-salad.html
Caesar Salad and corn fritters! I can't resist a good vegan caesar. And fresh strawberries!
And oh man would I love to eat all those peanut butter cups until I make myself sick. And congrats on 500 posts!
My favorite recent post is Mashed Potatoes etc and my favorite past post is the Sandwich Week posts from March of 2008!

I love thai food!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/04/oh-my-thai.html
I love being a vegetarian, meatless ribs. I'm drooling over my comp right now. I recently discovered your blog and I love it!
I am so proud of VegNews, the little mag & the little blog that could. It changed my life, and every friend I gift it to falls in love as well. But enough with the vegan-buttering you up.
My favorite post is http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/search/label/chickpea%20flour - mostly because it resulted in a meal my husband loved and asked me to make again less than a week later. It also was the final push - the final moment of synchronicity, if you will - that pushed me into studying the Ayurvedic arts in relation to daily food practice. This has been a gift in my life, so this is my favorite post - so far!
Cheers & Congrats,
Kristen
Any of the posts involving breakfast!!
congrats on the milestone!! thats so exciting :]
i do have to say, i think this is the best office food and i think my favorite (its so hard to choose!) is the coconut ginger bowl. i mean, seriously, that looks incredible. http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/03/coconut-ginger-bowl.html

Without a doubt, my favorite post was the cheesy pizza post! I love anything with cheese and the pic of the pizza left me craving some for sure.

But honestly my favorite posts change all the time!

My favorite is THIS post because it's on my birthday!!!
The pizza post, because that pizza looks so darned good, and I haven't tried Daiya yet!
Awesome giveaway! I need to find that cheese somewhere near me!

http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/vietnamese-style-tofu-heroes.html
yum!!
All of them are my favorite simply because they present new and fresh ideas using items that most of the time are easily found.
However, I really enjoyed the recent post that Joseph put together using items found at TJ's.

New to your blog, everything looks good. I'll be sure to share the info w/ a friend.
I am the friend sactruth shared with, and I gotta say, I am sooo happy she did! Ribs look great, but I am a sucker for donuts...on that choc/peanut butter combo, can we get a cupcake recipe? There is a bakery in Santa Cruz that makes a great one, but it's a little far to drive:)
July 28, 2009 - Fried Green Tomatoes: Because I've still never had these but I've always wanted to!

Thanks for 500 posts of pure veggie yumminess!
Sorry, there is no way I can pick just one!
I'm actually a new reader to this blog, but peanut butter cups and I go way way back. :)
Looking through the posts, it was so hard to choose one, but I went with the Hurry Up Alfredo just because I've been meaning to make it every night for weeks now.
One word: DAIYA! You introduced me to a product that has bridged a chasm between me and my family at meal time and I'm eternally grateful!
Your mac n' cheese recipe changed my life! All the stuff you make looks so good, it's hard to choose. I wish I had that much variety for my lunch at work! truly inspiring.
I still have visions of that Daiya cheese pizza. It reminded me of my favorite neighborhood pizza from my childhood in NYC. And what a brilliant idea to bring your own 'cheese'! Never would have thought of that.
I also find it hard to pick a favorite. I just love seeing the photos of the yummy food you guys are eating. I look everyday to find inspiration for what to cook for dinner for my family!
By far the Pizza...even my carnivore friends loved it! :)
Cashew Fondue -- out of this world with FLAVOR!
I will go with the tortillas, ... they were "out of bounds!!!"
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/homemade-vegan-tortillas.html

http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/marvelous-mac-n-cheese.html
I have to say my fav is Jan 22 entry featuring Christine Pirello's Crazy Vegan Life. Love her, love her books, love her show, love her food. (but not as much as I love VegNews of course!)
Any post that mentions Ani Phyo and her amazing raw food desserts!
Well, I think this may be my favorite now. DAIYA! BISCUITS! RIBS! Seriously, if it wasn't for your blog, I wouldn't have made the leap from vegetarian to vegan. Stuff like this shows you can still eat soooo good.
My partner is from Georgia, so this gets honorable mention too:http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/07/fried-green-tomatoes-and-biscuits.html
Falsie Ribs and cheesie biscuits look delicious. If I had to choose a favorite, I might pick Penne and Kale from Oct. 12. They all sound great.
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/world-vegetarian-day-chili.html
I'm a total chili addict! Recently ALDI actually had a great veggie chili, if you can believe it.
AND, this post was made on World Vegetarian Day, when I recommitted to being vegan again! YAY!
Here's to 500 more! (Well, more than 500, but you know what I mean, LOL!)
I like this one!

CHEERS! hooraaay Veg News! Keep up the great work
My favorite was Free-up-the-Fridge Friday (05-01-09)! I enjoy the fact that even Cafe VegNews cleans out the fridge -- in style.
Out of all your wonderful posts, which I LOVE to read, to be honest this post has to be the most exciting, your 500th post! That's quite a feat and so excited for all those involved in making it happen. Keep your great blog a coming.
It would have to be the homemade tortilla post. It inspired me to start making them rather than buying them.
I love the Totally Trader Joe's post
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/totally-trader-joes.html
Anything that has guacamole in it has my vote!

Thank you for bringing this blog to my attention with the drawing. Everything looks so tasty... but I'm partial to the gluten-free sugar-free ones.
Leaving my email address this time so you can contact me with my prize! (Do they have carob pb?)
As a born and raise Mediterranean girl, I sure love to make my gnocchis - the way my Great-Grand-mother taught me when I was just a child! :-)*)
Therefore, here is my favorite post
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/homemade-vegan-gnocchi.html
Because today is so chilly, I'm thinking about that Beefless Stew with Mashed Potatoes that was posted in Sept. That's comfort food at it's best!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/beefless-stew-and-mashed-potatoes.html
Is there a recipe for Frankie's ribs somewhere? Or is it Frankie's secret? I'm getting hungry.
This is my favorite: http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/02/come-n-get-it-curry.html. It has just about everything I love, including Brussels! Yum :)
I love every post. They make me very hungry and motivate me to cook at home. But my recent favorite post was the gnocchi b/c I've always been obsessed with it and it's hard to find a vegan version pre-made. http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/homemade-vegan-gnocchi.html
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/02/cheese-week-muy-mexi-casserole.html
Mexi Casserole ROCKS!! There was also a burrito post this month that I loved!! I made casserole and burritos for weeks!! Yay!!
Your blog always makes me a) incredibly hungry, b) envious of all the cool and yummy stuff you get for free, and c) wish I had more time to cook.
One simply recipe I can luckily make time for is vegan pizza with the amazing Daiya cheese. http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/best-pizza-ever.html
Congrats and thanks for your giveaway. I'd LOVE to win, so hope the vegan gods are with me. Also thanks for just being here with all your support for us and the animals. You're the best!

Breakfast Bonanza..being from the south..this breakfast ensemble makes it easy to adapt to the abundance of hearty foods that I was once accustomed to in my former life.
Vegan pizza. Always vegan pizza. Especially with Daiya.
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/pizza.html

http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/06/brunch-week-banana-rabanada.html
fresh tortilla friday was my favorite post! it made this former californian all giddy with nostalgia. =)
Do you ship to New Zealand?
I really love most of the posts, sometimes wish you shared recipes (hint, hint)... the post that sticks out most recently is the one regarding Daiya on pizza... really anything Daiya lately...have been really wanting to try it! I think your pizza post may have given me the nudge I need to just go ahead and buy it! Thanks!
"Cold-Fighting Curry" from Dec 15, 2008. You needed a fill-in, and yours came through. The lunch looked GREAT!
Making your Pumpkin Muffins today, can't wait.
That pizza post from Tuesday was amazing:
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/pizza.html
Since I have recently moved into a house with wall ovens, I am really looking forward to making pizza of my own!
Burrito Blitz was my favorite post in the past few months. Burrito= Good and Good = Love. I loved these things!!! I recommend that everyone try these. Go Vegnews!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Little pizzas with the big name:
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/03/omigosh-okonomiyaki.html
Mac n' cheese! My only other favorite combo is pb and chocolate!
The recipes posted are awesome! I especially like the gluten-free and soy-free recipes or ones I can easily make gluten-free and soy-free. I wish you would post more of those, at least the soy-free recipes. The chocolate chili recipe, which I made with Quorn crumblies, earned me a first prize placing in a recent chili cook-off! Keep up the good work.
mac n cheese hands down!
I like your recent post on pizza with Daiya, have been wanting to try some soon (hopefully tomorrow)
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/pizza.html
My very favorite ones are anything with cashew butter or cashews in them. But then again, the Mashed Potatoes, etc. blog did it too and so did the Hurry Up Alfredo. It's been forever since I've had Alfredo! Can't forget the Portobello Perfection with the aioli .......... ok, so they're all good! Thank you for all of them and contrats on 500. We'll celebrate at 1000 too!
Today's pic...I make biscuits but never put gravy on them. But cashew gravy? Oooooh that has to be made TONIGHT! Yum!
I went to Alicia Silverstone's book reading in Danville, CA, ( the recipes are great FYI )and a culinary student made the carob cups in her cookbook, they were good but the cups you are giving away look great! AND my weakness. Yummy!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/search/label/mac%20%27n%27%20cheese
When my and I first became vegan, I wondered whatever would we do without mac and cheese. So, "ta da"! Now we can have it whenever we want!!
When you introduced Daiya cheese! That stuff is miraculous! Congrats, VegNews!
Congratulations on your 500th post! My favorite thus far has been the visit from Amy's Kitchen. Delicious! So what exactly does one have to do to get a visit from such culinary goddesses?
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2008/08/amys-indian-buffet.html
Probably the mac'n cheese!
Extra-Cheexy Baked Ziti!
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/extra-cheesy-baked-ziti.html
Yummy! I love any posts with Frankie's ribs. Been meaning to come up with a version myself.
http://cafevegnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/carrot-stew-and-garlic-bread.html
There's not much that I don't like to cook and eat, so I'd say that whatever I'm in the mood for that night is my favorite recipe.
Any of the blogs about Daiya cheese are the most intriguing, as we have yet to try it! And we are waiting to get it in our area!!! (or order it form Vegan Essentials!)
We would really love winning the peanut butter cups, though I do make them myself, but rarely!
Mmmm, I vote for the yummy yellow curry & cupcakes!!...curry is just great, warms you up inside, and we could all use a little more vegan cupcake varieties!! mmmm
My fave cafe Veg News post(s) are the Raw Weeks. I am still trying to become disciplined enough to transition to a raw lifestyle, and I loved the idea of doing it for a short time...kind of like practice!!
CAN'T PICK JUST ONE. ANYTHING WITH VEGE'S IN IT IS PERFECT WITH ME.
My favorite is mashed potatoes. Yum!
its so hard to pick just one! i think that these simple salads look so tasty and quick too!
Hmmmm..... Yummy
